Richard was born in Roswell, New Mexico and has lived in the southwest all his life. His profound attachment to the landscape and the textures that surrounded him are evident in his painting and sculptural work. At the start of his career, Richard gained experience as a textile designer. During his fifteen years of working with artists and textile buyers the impetus grew for a more personal creative expression and Richard chose to embark upon his own career in painting. Richard found his voice and developed his own visual language with paint and canvas, later expanding into mixed media and sculpture. His courage to follow his heart has brought him great success through a variety of venues.
Preferring to work in mixed media at this point in his career, Richard is able to incorporate various elements that give his work a unique texture through a simple composition.
