William Cooke started painting at fifteen and then went on to study illustration at Sheridan College. After he graduated in 2003 his work began to employ a more multidisciplinary approach influenced by techniques from the film industry. He went on to receive a film grant from the Canada Arts Council as well as the Ontario Arts Council. Photography was a natural progression for his art. In his work, you see a compositional fusion of painting and motion. Photographing light trails excites him as it combines abstract expressionism, gesture and supports his new love for minimalism.
